Seborrheic keratosis
Indications for removal
The size, location and appearance of moles are different and should not be all removed, but there are those that must be removed or at least check regularly. Indications for removal are divided into medical and cosmetic.
Medical indications – including birthmarks that grow, change shape and color or are in areas of irritation. Irritation under the mean effect of solar UV radiation, which is primarily concerned with the birthmarks on the face, neck and chest. Moles that are constantly being mechanically irritating (eg, daily shaving by men or by scraping the edges of the bra for women) are in the risk group. Medical indications are most suspicious looking moles, which suggest melanoma but other skin cancers, such as bazaliome.
Aesthetic indications – it’s primarily about the moles on his face and neck, because the most visible, and may interfere with the aesthetic and less moles, especially if they are numerous. On the chest, abdomen, back and limbs are common nevi larger cluster offset that bad imposing, and in this case, we recommend removal.
The method depends on the change
Choose a method of removing by indication, which is why it is very important detailed examination of doctors who are thus engaged. It must include a detailed history of behavioral and overview of moles microscope. In the case of suspected melanoma or pre-cancerous change, is a specified diagnostic criteria.
If a reasonable suspicion that a mole could be melanoma or other malignant tumor, then there is no doubt – required a classic surgical approach, which means a wide excision.
Radio-wave method
Fortunately, most of the mole was benign in appearance and behavior therefore it use less aggressive and well-controlled methods of removal. Most of it is radio-wave method that has the characteristics of surgical ablation (peeling), but without the scar and the need to suture the wound. It is used by high frequency electromagnetic waves (3.8 MHz) and no radiation as in radiological diagnosis, which uses X-rays, which often over-activity can be harmful. The main characteristic of radio-wave treatment of skin and tissue is of great precision, without damaging and devastating effects on surrounding tissue, unlike conventional electro surgical effect or action of some lasers. By applying various extensions and various forms of electromagnetic waves, tissue and skin can be cut and peel, and the blood vessels to coagulate at the same time, so there is no bleeding. Given that this method allows precise work in a superficial (epidermal) layer of the skin, causes minimal tissue trauma and healing without scarring, or with minimal, barely visible local depigmentation.
This quality is particularly pronounced at removing mole on face and neck, where blood flow due to the massive wounds heal faster, and after a few weeks, no traces of the operation. Wound after the procedure only needs a few days protected patches, and the surrounding skin treated with creams that stimulate faster epithelization. The tissue removed by this method can and should be sent to histopathologic analysis.
Because of its accuracy, radio-wave operative technique is recommended for other cosmetic procedures, such as “facelift and blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), but most gained popularity thanks to the removal of various skin lesions and growths, due to non-traumatic effect on skin healing without scarring.
Lasers use light as an energy that can cut or destroy tissue coagulation, or removed by evaporation. The amount of energy applied and the extent of destruction depends on the lesion and surrounding tissue. If the tissue has evaporated, there is no material for histopathologic analysis.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is often used by dermatologists and is based on the use of very low temperature (-76 ° C up to -196 ° C). It is suitable for small benign skin formation, especially for warts on the fingers and hands. Hypopigmentation at the site of application, as a result of the operation, is aesthetically acceptable.
Electrosurgical methods belong to the older methods and use heat as energy, a major drawback is damaging the skin around the mole. It is suitable only for removing small fibroma and nipples hanging on thin stalks.
